Our Trust of Schools

How we financially support our families

Free School Meals

If your child is eligible for Free School Meals it means they can enjoy delicious, healthy meals without the bills and the fuss of making packed lunches. Many children at our school are already eating free school meals, and your child may be able to have them too. School meals will give your child a real appetite for learning and help them to achieve their full potential.

Students claiming Free School Meals receive a daily allowance to spend on food and drink, and thanks to the cashless catering system at st James School, a child claiming Free School Meals is treated the same as other students and cannot be identified. Their allowance gets added to their account each morning and any unspent allowance removed after lunch. The current Free School Meal allowance is £2.30 and can be used for break and lunch.

Applications for Free School Meals can be made through the Devon Citizen’s Portal.

The St James bursary

At St James our students are at the heart of everything we do; we are a community committed to creating opportunities for students to develop high aspirations, to make progress, and take advantage of all that school has to offer.

Fundamental to this aim is ensuring that students in receipt of Pupil Premium are supported and challenged to take a full, active part in school life, engaging with their learning, both in school and at home, embracing the culture of high expectations and accessing our excellent extra-curricular activities. The St James bursary allows parents who are struggling to apply for financial support through their Head of Year to part-fund trips, uniform and subject-specialist equipment.

All students in receipt of Pupil Premium are also entitled to Music Tuition.

Uniform support at St James

At St James  School we have high expectations of our students' appearance, students are expected to wear their full uniform with pride. This can be purchased from Thomas Moore. Parents can purchase other items such as shirts and trousers for both boys and girls from any retailer.

St James offer a uniform Swap shop scheme,  which well cared for items of uniform can be bought by the school ready for sale to other students. As stated in our uniform policy, Hospice Care, Fore Street, Exeter EX4 3HX is our second hand supplier of uniform. Uniform can be purchased from Hospice Care, or they offer customers to swap like-for-like items e.g small undamaged blazer for larger undamaged blazer.

Our PE Department have a stock of Astro trainers that we can lend to students.
