There was plenty to celebrate at St James School today, Thursday 20th August, as students received their GCSE results.

Students, staff and families are celebrating a strong set of GCSE results with an amazing 70% of students achieving grade 4 and above (a secure pass) in English and maths, which is above the national average, an increase on last year. A fantastic 51% achieved a 5 and above (a strong pass), supporting students to move onto the next stage of their journey with confidence.

 

Outcomes for students experiencing disadvantage and those who have Special Educational Needs have improved significantly with a 12% improvement on grades 4+ in English and Maths for both groups.

The results are a fantastic achievement for students and staff, reflecting the ambition, determination and hard work shown throughout students’ time at the school.

St James is pleased to celebrate so many student achievements:

• Freddie C achieved seven grade 9s, two grade 8s and a grade 7.
• Ellie C achieved five grade 9s, four grade 8s, a grade 7 and a Distinction* in Engineering.
• Fatima S achieved seven grade 9s, two grade 8s a Distinction* in Engineering.
• Bartek M achieved four grade 9s, four grade 8s, a grade 7 and a Distinction* in Engineering.

As students prepare for life beyond Year 11, St James School provides a wide range of experiences to help them explore new interests, consider future pathways and build confidence. This includes work placements with local employers, careers events, visits to colleges and universities, and opportunities to develop skills through volunteering, public speaking and leadership.

Students have also enjoyed success beyond the classroom, with the school’s flag football team recently crowned Devon champions after a strong performance in the county tournament. After competing in the Exeter Athletics Trials Students Jack and Harrison competed at the National Schools Athletics Finals with Jack securing a Gold medal.

These experiences have helped make their time with us so memorable and left a lasting impact on our community.
