Dear students, parents and carers,

I wanted to take the opportunity at the end of the summer term to introduce myself to you. My name is Lindsay Skinner and I will be your headteacher at St James from September. I am very much looking forward to joining and leading your school community.

It is especially important to me that I am taking over as headteacher at St James specifically, because, as some of you may already be aware, I went to St James, back when the building was a lot less impressive than it is now! So, 21 years after I left year 11, I am delighted to be returning – in many ways, it feels as though I am coming home.

In these past 21 years, I have been pursuing a career as an English teacher and senior leader. Presently, I am Director of Education at the Bridgwater College Trust and work across schools, developing teaching and learning and raising standards. Prior to that, I was a Deputy Head at Bridgwater College Academy and I have also worked as a senior leader at Glenmoor School and Winton School in Bournemouth.

In my spare time, I like to travel and walk my sausage dog and I also write educational books for HarperCollins. I am passionate about the arts, social mobility and promoting kindness and you will hear more about those things from me in the future.

Of course, in September, I will write to you again to outline my vision for St James and I will also arrange opportunities to meet with as many parents and carers as I can so that we can get to know each other.

In the meantime, I would like to wish you a happy, relaxing and safe summer holidays.

With very best wishes,

Lindsay Skinner
