On Wednesday 12th June St James students competed in the annual Interschool’s Athletics Championships at Exeter Arena. With each student competing in individual events to gain as many points for their year group as possible; we were lucky as the rain stopped for the day and allowed for good racing conditions. Although there were many stand out performances from the day, we have to comment on how St James students as a whole represented their school teams with pride! Whether it was through competing, supporting their fellow athletes during events, coming to support a student who had to pull out due to injury, to even supporting staff running events!
One stand out team performance however that must be mentioned was the Year 7 boys Relay team, consisting of Jacob Hay-Laing, Alex Dacombe, Billy Talbot and Alistair Smith. These four boys all ran exceptionally well in their respective legs of the 4x100m relay with the team winning the race comfortably; a great end to the day.
We had a good number of students stay at the end of the event in anticipation of how St James performed against other schools and were rewarded for staying. Results were as follows: Year 7 Boys Division 2 Champions, Year 8 Girls Division 2 Champions and Year 10 Boys Division 2 Champions. St James also finished 2nd in Year 9 Girls Division 2 and 3rd in Year 9 Boys Division 1.
A fantastic day with every student representing their school with pride.
