Year 11 student Amy Daysh took part in the South West Schools Championship at Exeter Quay on May bank holiday weekend, along with her team mate from St Lukes school, and did rather well!
The ladies crew represented their schools by paddling their two person kayak to victory in the 500m sprint, winning the event! They came a close second in the 200m dash and brought home a third in the marathon race. The ladies were competing against crews from Launceston Colledge in Launceston, Mount Kelly Colledge near Tavistock and Blundell’s School in Tiverton – all of whom are crews which have completed the four day 125 mile Devies to Westminster International Canoe Race. To add context to their wins, both ladies are members of Exeter Canoe Club but have not exceeded 10 miles in any of their training sessions so far this year so this really is a great result against very experienced crews!
A fantastic achievement from Amy – well done!
